Researchers in the UK recently noted that low levels of vitamin C in the blood of elderly patients was actually a very strong predictor of mortality. The patients with normal or high levels of vitamin C would be more likely to survive a heart problem or a disease! In addition a 1992 study showed that people with higher levels of vitamin C in their blood tend to live six years longer than those with low levels of the vitamin.

Eating Fast Food Slowly Killing Americans

For the first time in our nations history the life expectancy for the generation being born today is actually lower than the life expectancy for our generation. While there are several factors at work here the largest is our changing diet. As gas prices rise so does the cost of food and those $1 hamburgers at Wendy's look better at better. The American youth today eats at a fast food restaurant an average of 3 times a week. How many times did your family go out to eat when you were younger?

This increased fast food dieting is leaving our children with greater and greater amounts of fat on their young bodies which just becomes harder to lose as they age. These fast foods are not only high in fat, but are also high in cholesterol and are actually physically addictive! Of course we all know the dangers of fast food, yet we need to educate our children before it is too late.

Good health starts young with a good understanding of health. It is our duty to see off the next generation to be better than we were and that starts with teaching them the importance of respecting their bodies enough to eat well and exercise. While they might not thank you now, in fifty years when they are standing next to their robot pal ASMIO as they watch Kevin Garnet play out his final season in the NBA they will be thankful.

Nutrition is Important

The old saying "you are what you eat" is more accurate than our kind ol' grandma's ever thought. Every day more information comes out on the importance of proper diet.

My grandmother used to say good health has the simplest formula of anything; eat fresh, living food that makes you feel good, keep the body moving, and laugh daily.
